VAZUM is a deathgaze duo from Detroit, MI. Founded in 2017 by Zach Pliska as a solo project, VAZUM has since released five albums spanning several genres from post-punk to doom metal. Zach began as a drummer in numerous Detroit area bands and gained experience touring, recording and writing. In search of his own voice Zach decided to work on his own music and released the first VAZUM song, ‘Fall Guy’ in 2017. He then began production on the self-titled VAZUM album and assembled a band to begin playing live. After cycling through various band members Zach found a strong connection with vocalist and bassist Emily Sturm, who joined the band in 2019. With a background in visual arts Emily has given the band an aesthetic edge, both sonically and visually. As a duo, Zach and Emily have focused the VAZUM sound in what they describe as deathgaze; combining the raw energy of deathrock with the depth of shoegaze. In 2020 the duo released two full-length albums, Vampyre Villa and Rated V, as well as a dark holiday EP, Vazumnacht. VAZUM is preparing their next album, V+ for release in early 2021.
