Murder The Crow Review

Murder The Crow

Lull Of The Night”

2016

Right off the bat, this band scares you with a horribly goofy, Weezer-esque intro thing. WTF. Then, out of no where comes a really good, crushing groovy, doom influenced riff to start the first track, “Used & Abused”. If the whole disc was like this song, we could be on to something. For some reason though, I keep getting an underlying Seattle influence from this Florida band, but I can’t quite figure it out. Off the cuff though, I perceived possible elements of say Helmet, maybe a bit of Godsmack & possibly some Volbeat influences in all this. Not as annoying as Volbeat or Godsmack & a touch more humorous & fun sounding, I’d rather hear these guys on the radio than that annoying stuff.

Anyhow, as the hard rock kind of thing goes, the next tune begins to bring more clarity of possible influences. “No Input Found” brings to mind more of a Seattle style, heavy, repetitive riffage with an even more Volbeat vibe. I seem to be noticing a trend in Murder the Crow’s music. But wait, things take a right turn out of nowhere at the end.

Last but not least is the final track on this journey, & there’s nothing hard rock or remotely heavy about it. “Uh”. The song, “These Words Have Wings”, is about as 80’s synth pop as one can get in 2018. Did y’all knock back a few & binge on some Gary Numan or Dramatis one night & have an epiphany? “Uh”. For an EP, this is a weird collection of tunes. I’m not quite sure how to take all this. “Uh”. Add some heavy guitar & some slightly angry vocals to your synth-pop diddy & y’all might be on to something kind of Ministry-ish. “Uh”.

As much as I can’t stand Fear Factory, y’all might want to listen to their cover of Numan’s “Cars” & go from there.

Though it seems like they are having fun, & I didn’t mind the synth pop jam at the end, they need to quit jumping all over the musical map.

Aside from the horrid intro attached to the first track & the slightly out of nowhere piano tie wearing – dance party get down at the end, I found these folks to be solid in the hard rock category. And leave some of the “Uh’s” out of it.

With a little more direction, they could be doing something consistently cool.
