J.P. Krom Bio

A child of Neptune, J.P. Krom is a Chilean composer, singer/guitarist, and creator of Astrometal.

Like many stories, his starts with a lover: a pagan mistress who gifted him with an astral chart, an irresistible invitation to the esoteric.

Kings and powerful men use this device to see into the future, but to J.P. Krom it’s a tool for self-knowledge: every passion, every act of good and horror, can be understood with the map of the stars at the moment we are born.

Thus Astrometal –a term coined by Krom himself– was born: a blend of astrological metaphors/concepts with the sounds and structures of metal.

J.P. Krom is a Chilean solo musician creator of astrological or Astrometal Metal. He is an author, songwriter, guitarist and singer. He hold a Bachelor of Music degree and studied Astrology and Tarot at the Quiron School. He is currently studying at the Astrological of Chile. This forms the theoretical basis in the themes of his lyrics which however do not explicitly speak this.

J.P. Krom has participated different types of bands of various styles, but specifically in the metal rock genre. As Denun’s lead guitarist in 2012, he opened for the well-known Swedish group Therion at the Dome of Parque O’Higgins in Santiago de Chile. At the end of 2015 he finished crowdfunding campaign to help finalize the new album of his own songs which began in 2012.

At this moment J.P. has released two productions:

“The Inner Gods” (LP 2017)

Twelve relentless tracks – one of each sign of the Zodiac – looking at the archetype feeding our primal urges from the perspective of ancient knowledge.

Two singles: the punishing “Omnipotent Egotist” (a meditation on the sign of Leo) and the hard-hitting “As You Bleed For Me” (an exploration of Aries).

Mixed/mastered by All Tomorrow’s Pepe Lastarria, a legend in the Chilean djent and prog metal circuit. Features a sixteen-page booklet with illustrations for each sign of the zodiac by local and international artists. The album has received airplay in Latin America, the United States, Italy, Spain and Germany, as well as coverage from metal publications in Chile, South America, North America and Europe.

YOD (EP, 2021)

Four tracks together make up this short duration of Astrometal, using as basis the position by sign of three planets: Mercury in Gemini, Venus in Scorpio and Pluto in Capricorn; which at the same time is a reference to card number 16 of the major arcana of the Tarot, The Tower.

This EP includes four tracks inspired by astrology with a sound that is closer to Gothic metal a perfect style for the voice of J.P. Krom, which is reminiscent of the great Pete Steele, the late Type O Negative singer.

In the instrumental, YOD has a strong predominance in keyboards that range from electronic to symphonic, accompanied by heavy guitars reminiscent of great exponents of the genre such as Nightwish and Within Temptation. The name of the EP arises from a astrological concept that represents the themes addressed in the songs.

YOD’s vocals and basses were recorded by J.P. Krom, the keyboards by Braulio Morales and the drums by Erick Martinez at Orange Studios, who also did the mixing. Meanwhile, the cover was in charge of the Chilean artist Rodolfo, who explores the themes that give life to the songs that make up the EP.

FACTS OF HISTORY

J.P. Krom majored in music – which exposed to the classical composers and new songwriting/ arrangement possibilities – and even sang in a medieval choir.

His early influences range from Slayer to Dream Theater, to Guns N’ Roses to Sepultura, but his penchant for the dark and the theatrical steered him towards Type O Negative, Moonspell, Paradise Lost and The 69 Eyes – the final ingredient of his metal alchemy.

J.P. Krom took his artistic name from the fickle deity of Conan the Barbarian comics.

If your wondering he’s a Pisces.
