J.P. Krom

Crimson Moon: How did the band get started?
J.P. Krom: This is a soloist project that begun in  2009 and when the first album with original songs in 2017 (The Inner Gods) was going to released, at the same I formed a band to play the songs live.

Crimson Moon: What kind of music do you play?
J.P. Krom: Astrometal. A metal that is based on astrology. The first album was of the horoscope signs, now YOD (EP 2021) is about the planets in the signs.

Crimson Moon: How has the band response been?
J.P. Krom: The band has changed several times of musicians, but at the same time this was more than a soloist project, and that’s the reason it was called “J.P. KROM BAND”. So I think it has been good.

Crimson Moon: Where did the band name come from?
J.P. Krom: The soloist name comes from the god of the Conan the Barbarian, a movie I saw many years ago.

Crimson Moon: Introduce the band members.
J.P. Krom: These are the musicians that actually are in the new release, YOD.
J.P. Krom: Author and composer, singer and guitarist.
Braulio Morales: Synths.
Reynaldo Catalán: Bass.
Rodrigo Leiva: Drums.

Crimson Moon: How many albums/CD’s have you released?
J.P. Krom: Two – The Inner Gods & Yod.

Crimson Moon: Tell me about some of the songs on the latest CD?
J.P. Krom: Four tracks together make up this short duration of Astro metal, using as a basis the position by sign of three planets: Mercury in Gemini, Venus in Scorpio and Pluto in Capricorn; which at the same time is a reference to card number 16 of the major arcana of the Tarot, The Tower.

This EP includes four tracks inspired by astrology, with a sound that is closer to Gothic metal, a perfect style for the voice of J.P. Krom, which is reminiscent of the great Pete Steele, the late Type O Negative singer.

Crimson Moon: Who writes the music? Lyrics?
J.P. Krom: J.P. KROM

Crimson Moon: And where do the lyric ideas come from?
J.P. Krom: From astrology, but this is some kind of language to tell things through it. At the same time, the music is made first and it hints the topic of the music.

Crimson Moon: Has the Covid Pandemic impacted the band at all?
J.P. Krom: For playing live, of course. But at the same time the time at house is more and it is useful to play and creating.

Crimson Moon: Do you have any side projects?
J.P. Krom: No.

Crimson Moon: What is the music scene like where you guys are from?
J.P. Krom: The metal is strong in the few persons that follow Chilean metal. I think there are more bands that people that follow them.

Crimson Moon: Who are some of your musical influences?
J.P. Krom: My favorite bands are Slayer, Guns N’ Roses and Dream Theater. But in this new EP the influences of Type O Negative, The 69 Eyes and Delain are stronger.

Crimson Moon: What is the band like when you play live?
J.P. Krom: With energy, steady at the playing and powerful.

Crimson Moon: Have you guys ever played in another country?
J.P. Krom: No.

Crimson Moon: How has the fan response been to the band?
J.P. Krom: Good, now changing to a different public I guess, with this sound more “Gothic” that YOD has.

Crimson Moon: What made you want to be in this band?
J.P. Krom: I wanted to be soloist, because I was bored of the singers, didn’t want to depend on them. Because it is hard to deal with them. Rock star issues, you know.

Crimson Moon: If you weren’t in this band would you still be involved in the music industry?
J.P. Krom: Yes. Otherwise I wouldn’t be me.

Crimson Moon: As a musician what advice can you give to fellow musician just starting out?
J.P. Krom: Follow your heart with the good guide.

Crimson Moon: What does the future hold for the band?
J.P. Krom: A promotion of the EP, looking for the public that is likes the astrometal in this new version YOD, and after that a possible tour, depending on the situation with the pandemic.
