Fantum Aeternum

Crimson Moon: How did the band get started?

Steve: It all started back in 2006. Back then we played some kind of medieval\Gothic music (In-Extremo style). But it ran its course pretty quick and became boring. In 2010, I finally decided to record a full-length album, for which I offered Evelyn to record some vocals and violin.

Crimson Moon: What kind of music do you play?

Steve: We spent a lot of time looking for our sound. Right now, we combine a few styles that we love: dark rock\metal, funk, reggae and jazz.

Crimson Moon: How has the band response been?

Steve: In our local scene, most of the people know about our existence, some follow us from the beginning, some joining now. All in all, these are always OUR people, who like varied music, just like we do.

Crimson Moon: Where did the band name come from?

Steve: Fatum Aterenum is Eternal Fate in Latin.

Crimson Moon: Introduce the band members.

Steve: The band members for current releases are:

Steve Gershin – the founder, vocals and bass, sometimes programming and keyboards.

Evelyn Shor Gershin – vocals\violin

Mark Muzykant – drums

Alex Zvulun – guitars and production

Elad Gellert – saxophone

Crimson Moon: How many albums/CD’s have you released?

Steve: We released 1 full-length album in 2011 (“This Dream is Dead), “The Sermon” EP in 2012, “The Darkest hour” in 2015, “Mass suicide of Human Race” EP in 2017 and “Singing Songs of Desperation” in 2020.

Crimson Moon: Tell me about some of the songs on the latest CD?

Steve: Our latest release is a single called “Spiders”, a glimpse into our upcoming music. We plan to release more singles in the near future to keep you all entertained 🙂

Crimson Moon: Who writes the music? Lyrics?

Steve: Many of our songs are based on the bass-lines written by Steve, and the rest is “built” around it, with every member bringing their personality. The lyrics are written by Steve and Evelyn.

Crimson Moon: And where do the lyric ideas come from?

Steve: It depends. Some ideas emerge from what we see around ourselves, and some – from what’s inside us.

Crimson Moon: Has the Covid Pandemic impacted the band at all?

Steve: Sure, like everyone else. We hadn’t performed for a while, but kept busy with writing new musics.

Crimson Moon: Do you have any side projects?

Steve: We have several ideas and hope to get to them in the near future as well.

Crimson Moon: What is the music scene like where you guys are from?

Steve: Israel has a relatively big scene for its small size and population. But due to the pandemic we lost our connection to the scene recently, some bands disbanded during this time as well. The friends we have in the scene play mostly doom or trash metal.

Crimson Moon: Who are some of your musical influences?

Steve: Primus (in terms of bass), the Doors (in terms of lyrical themes), Tori Amos (in terms of female energy).

Crimson Moon: What is the band like when you play live?

Steve: Very theatrical, that’s what many people who watched us live had said.

Crimson Moon: Have you guys ever played in another country?

Steve: Yes.

Crimson Moon: How has the fan response been to the band?

Steve: People appreciate that we’re having fun with our music and on stage, and we really appreciate them for that as well.

Crimson Moon: What made you want to be in this band?

Steve: The desire for self-expression.

Crimson Moon: If you weren’t in this band would you still be involved in the music industry?

Steve: Probably not, everything that we are is invested in this project.

Crimson Moon: As a musician what advice can you give to fellow musician just starting out?

Steve: Take the time to practice – and get a job.

Crimson Moon: What does the future hold for the band?

Steve: Unfortunately – we’re not fortune-tellers, but hopefully – the best music we can deliver.
