Barbara Black

Crimson Moon: How did the band get started?

Barbara: Nitro (drummer), Javier (guitar) and I used to played in different bands some years ago and we rehearsed in the same music room. We all had a very good relationship and common musical interests, so we decided to start a band together in 2015.

Crimson Moon: What kind of music do you play?

Barbara: Our sound is born from the roots of rock with the power of today’s metal. The new album Love, Death & Flies is our hardest sound. You will find in the lyrics Victorian streets, dark passages and a decadent romanticism and it will drive you to reach the zenith in “Damnified”, a reflection of the approach to wilder southern sounds. I am a passionate singer so there are powerful voices that fly through melodies, screaming and opera. And what I really like the most is the sharp guitars and devastating drums.

Crimson Moon: How has the band response been?

Barbara: We are receiving very good reviews from both, press and fans. We are very proud of. Fans from Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, Uruguay, Spain, New York, Greece, Italy and even Asia are asking for our album and transmitting their enjoyment for it, that´s amazing and very rewarding.

Crimson Moon: Where did the band name come from?

Barbara: It is my name.

Crimson Moon: Introduce the band members.

Barbara: Nitro is such a wild and talented drummer and Javi knows how to compose a powerful riff. Marquez and Nitro are an explosive bomb when they play together. Cone is a traditional 70s guitar that really loves playing wild guitar solos.

Crimson Moon: How many albums/CD’s have you released?

Barbara: In 2016 we released the EP “Spiritual Rock”, later in 2017 we released the álbum “Ad Libitum” and in 2020 we released “Love, Death & Flies”.

Crimson Moon: Tell me about some of the songs on the latest CD?

Barbara: Twister Girl is about a story of a student of mine who a tornado took her in the air. I decided to write about her funny and scary story. On the other hand, Kissed By Flames talks about a paranormal anecdote I lived some years ago: I saw three old men faces in the middle of a purple and green smoke. Later on I woke up three nights at 3:33 A.M.

Crimson Moon: Who writes the music? Lyrics?

Barbara: We compose all together the music, someone brings an idea and we develop it together in the music room. About the lyrics I always write them, but Damnified that wrote it with Niño Buffalo Márquez.

Crimson Moon: And where do the lyric ideas come from?

Barbara: I really like to write about animal rights, feminism, experiences that have happened to me. I´m also inspired by other artists’ works for instance photography’s, books, series, movies, characters and sculptures.

Crimson Moon: Has the Covid Pandemic impacted the band at all?

Barbara: Unfortunately yes. We were forced to postpone the tour twice. And we had to delay the shooting of our next video clip. Furthermore in our personal lives, we have lost some of our relatives and some members of the band have lost their jobs.

Crimson Moon: Do you have any side projects?

Barbara: Bárbara Black is absolutely my main project, my baby, what I love the most and what I am dedicated to 100%. But sometimes I played live in a cover band called Rock Star Band with Martin More (Sangre Azul).

Crimson Moon: What is the music scene like where you guys are from?

Barbara: There is an amazing good quality in the bands and musicians here in Spain but it is absolutely impossible to live on music business except those who have a label´s support. The most common situation is working in different fields and at the same time fighting for your band.

Crimson Moon: Who are some of your musical influences?

Barbara: We like bands such as Black Stone Cherry, Alter Bridge, Sixx A.M., Shinedown, In This Moment or even traditional bands as Mr Big.

Crimson Moon: What is the band like when you play live?

Barbara: We have a very powerful energy and try to bring some theatrical aspects on stage. What we enjoy the most is singing with the audience.

Crimson Moon: Have you guys ever played in another country?

Barbara: Yes! In 2018 we were touring in UK with another band called Overseer for a week. It was such an amazing experience.

Crimson Moon: How has the fan response been to the band?

Barbara: We have received many good reviews and feedback from our fans, and above all love messages from different countries, but I have to confess that Greek fans are awesome.

Crimson Moon: What made you want to be in this band?

Barbara: This band is my mind, so I feel a completely freedom on it. Moreover the musicians are very talented and I enjoy playing together.

Crimson Moon: If you weren’t in this band would you still be involved in the music industry?

Barbara: For sure, I´m in love with music and I have no choice, hahahaha.

Crimson Moon: As a musician what advice can you give to fellow musician just starting out?

Barbara: Try to look for your own style and personality, being original is a very precious treasure!

Crimson Moon: What does the future hold for the band?

Barbara: We are working on the next video clip “Queen Of Flies”. Looking for locations, outfits, actors and scheduling all the details. We will be playing in the Argentina Online Metal Fest the next July 23rd, 24th and 25th. And we will be playing the next September 10th in Caracol Venue in Madrid. We are booking some new more dates, we will tell you in a few weeks.

Thank you for your time and work. And big hugs to all the metal fans.
