Immortalizer

Crimson Moon: How did the band get started?

Dave D.R.: Immortalizer got started in 2015 when the band I was in went on hiatus. I refused to give up, so I decided to continue solo. I always wanted to create a band like Immortalizer and after I released my debut EP “Unleashed” I never looked back!

Crimson Moon: What kind of music do you play?

Dave D.R.: I like to call it classic style Heavy Metal. I wanted to merge contemporary Metal with classic style Metal to create something new and entertaining. Modern day Metal with a vintage feel to it.

Crimson Moon: How has the fan response been?

Dave D.R.: The response so far has been incredibly positive! It’s really amazing! I’m incredibly grateful to all the Immortalizer fans out there! They help keep me going there’s no doubt about that! \m/

Crimson Moon: Where did the band name come from?

Dave D.R.: I found the band name while I was writing lyrics. I was working on a song about a sword which gives its owner immortality at the expense of their soul and sanity, I called it “The Immortalizer”. As soon as I saw it written out I knew I had found the perfect name for the band. Short and catchy.

Crimson Moon: Introduce the band members.

Dave D.R.: I’m currently the sole member of the band. I’m a multi-instrumentalist so I play guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and I sing as well. I am however looking forward to putting a really solid band together as soon as possible so Immortalizer can tour and grow as a band.

Crimson Moon: How many albums/CD’s have you released?

Dave D.R.: I’m currently writing and recording the first full length album. But I’ve released several singles and videos.

Crimson Moon: Tell me about some of the songs on the latest CD?

Dave D.R.: My first EP “Unleashed” had two tracks on it, “Unleashed” & “Lost” and more recently I released a tribute song called “Lemmy” in memory of the late great Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead. After that I released “I’m Gone”, “Gone To Hell” and I’ll be releasing my next single “Cut Loose” very soon!

Crimson Moon: Who writes the music? Lyrics?

Dave D.R.: I write all the music and the lyrics myself. I already have several albums worth of material, but I am also looking forward to writing songs with my future bandmates as well.

Crimson Moon: And where do the lyric ideas come from?

Dave D.R.: I find inspiration for lyrics from all kinds of sources; my past, day to day life, the current state of the world, where humankind is going, what the future might look like etc. Just like my music I start with things I enjoy and hope others will too!

Crimson Moon: Has the Covid Pandemic impacted the band at all?

Dave D.R.: Definitely, the main ways Covid has affected the band is by making it much harder to travel and set up auditions to find the rest of the band members.

Crimson Moon: Do you have any side projects?

Dave D.R.: Not anymore. Immortalizer is now my sole focus. I still enjoy jamming with my friends when we can get together, but we live in different parts of the country now, so we don’t get the chance very often.

Crimson Moon: What is the music scene like where you guys are from?

Dave D.R.: Ontario and Canada in general have quite the loyal Metal scene. Especially in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia. So many of them are die hard fans as well, (myself included).

Crimson Moon: Who are some of your musical influences?

Dave D.R.: The full list would be far too long, but among the very top would be Judas Priest, Motörhead, Saxon, Iron Maiden, Primal Fear, Dio, Helloween, Megadeth, Accept, Ozzy, Kiss and Black Sabbath.

Crimson Moon: What is the band like when you play live?

Dave D.R.: I’ve yet to get a live show together for the band, especially during covid, due to the numerous difficulties, however, I’m very much looking forward to performing and touring with Immortalizer in the future.

Crimson Moon: Have you guys ever played in another country?

Dave D.R.: Having mostly been a recording artist since I formed Immortalizer, I have yet to play outside of North America. Though I anxiously await my chance to tour all over the globe.

Crimson Moon: Do you do anything special warm-ups you do before you play live?

Dave D.R.: I do warm up exercises for sure. Especially arm, wrist, hand and finger exercises to flex them out before performing or recording. It’s especially necessary in the colder winter months. Thanks to Ralf Scheepers guidance I’ve also learned amazing vocal warm ups that I now use before every recording and for shows in the future as well.

Crimson Moon: What made you want to be in this band?

Dave D.R.: Well, I always wanted to be in a band like this, so I’m very proud to have founded Immortalizer.

Crimson Moon: If you weren’t in this band would you still be involved in the music industry?

Dave D.R.: I think so yes. Being the founder of Immortalizer I of course feel strongly about keeping the band alive for the rest of my career, but if I had a chance to be part of one of my favorite bands it might be hard to refuse haha.

Crimson Moon: As a musician what advice can you give to fellow musicians just starting out?

Dave D.R.: One key element that seems obvious but is so often overlooked is the importance of perfectly tuning your instruments. That’s paramount. Even if you’re a great band, if you’re out of tune you’ll sound like shit. I would also suggest playing live as often as possible. You really build your chops up by performing. I had the good fortune to perform a lot in my youth and during my early adult years too, which helped me a lot. Don’t be shitty to the crowd no matter what. Some may disagree, but even if you’re bombing that night, don’t be shitty to your fans, ever! Lastly, on top of recording as much as possible, I would suggest learning to write your own songs vs just learning covers. It takes a long time to build up good song writing abilities, so if you focus too much on others music you’ll never find your own sound as a band.

Crimson Moon: What does the future hold for the band?

Dave D.R.: Well, as I mentioned before I’m currently working on the full length album and singles / videos as well, but I’m excited to find the right manager and record label to help propel Immortalizer to new heights! \m/
