Mixed Company Bio

Mixed Company has hit the Kenosha area with a constant loud bombardment of true soulful new age rock. Fronted by a youthful and pleasantly raspy female vocalist, this restless band takes its rhythmic powerhouse music and barrels the Rock-n-Roll train through the hearts of its fans. In May of this year, the band released its second EP; Have Been…Have Loved. The Kenosha Happenings magazine raved that “…this band rocks the local stages as hard as any big name arena rock band”.

The band was formed in early 2013 when guitarist/songwriter Frank Slifka envisioned a new age of Rock n Roll free of its past stereo types. The name originated when selecting the band gender on Facebook which listed “male, female, or mixed”. With intents of having a mixed race and gender band, the label was fitting. After many failed attempts at finding a suitable bassist and vocalist, the vacancies were permanently filled by 80’s driven bassist/songwriter, Redo Ianni, along with the raw and edgy vocalist/lyricist Brittany Pie. “I immediately knew the band’s soul was fulfilled even before the auditions for these members took place. The presence that filled the room at the time was of complete bliss and excitement”, stated Frank in a short interview.

If you were to ask Mixed Company about their sound, you will be answered with a joking and sarcastic response reverberating to the effect of, “A hard rock version of Journey, just not as sappy and with a female vocalist.” In all seriousness, the music is upbeat, uplifting, and is inspired by the simplistic yet definitive writing style of AC/DC with a crossover style of the reckless wild tones of the 80’s not to mention the teenage grunge angst of the 90’s. The most distinctive attribute of the band would be the compelling and raspy vocals. A fan described the vocalist simply as,”…a badass Janis Joplin.” The lyrics are loaded with messages of hope and renewal aimed at a society littered with depleting morals and a false sense of salvation. The words are intended to bring light to the darkened world of Rock-n- Roll.

The band has been recognized by Phantom Records Corporation and NoView Marketing by awarding the members with 2nd place in the “Best of the Midwest” music competition. Their music and lively stage presence has led them to perform at big venues such as Milwaukee’s Summerfest, The Metal Grill, The Brat Stop as well as the Route 20 Outhouse, and H.O.M.E Bar Chicago. Local radio station 91.1FM WGTD, 95 WIIL Rock, AM1050 WLIP, Radio Riff and Kenosha Public Access have also blasted the band’s songs to thousands of listeners.

Mixed Company has set their eyes on sharing their music outside the state of Wisconsin. With the ongoing writing and soon recording of their third EP at Cherry Pit Studios, they wish and hope to be on the road within the year or by early 2016.
